Progressive President Teddy Roosevelt proposed a “square deal for every man, big or small, rich or poor,” which consisted of three main principles: control of corporations, consumer protection, and conservation of natural resources.

The Square Deal focused on regulating monopolistic practices and curbing the influence of corporations through antitrust legislation. Additionally, it aimed to strike a balance between the interests of big business and the rights of consumers and workers.

Consumer protection measures were implemented through legislation such as the Pure Food and Drug Act and the Meat Inspection Act, addressing concerns about the safety of food and pharmaceuticals.

Under the concept of conservation, Roosevelt initiated efforts to preserve and manage natural resources, leading to the creation of national parks, monuments, and wildlife reserves.
