In the mid-20th century, the United States experienced significant immigration, driven by a combination of factors including post-World War II displacement, economic opportunities, and changes in immigration policy.

The Immigration and Nationality Act of 1965 abolished the national origins quota system and prioritized family reunification and skilled labor in immigration admissions.

The Immigration and Nationality Act also facilitated increased immigration from Asia and Latin America contributing to the growth of Asian and Hispanic communities across the country.

Government agencies like the Office of Refugee Resettlement were established to assist with the resettlement of refugees and immigrants including Holocaust survivors, those fleeing Communist regimes in Eastern Europe and Fidel Castro in Cuba.
Replacement of discriminatory immigration policies as well as global events fueled a rise in immigration to the United States during the mid-20th century.
