Globalization is characterized by the increasing interconnectedness of economies and societies across the world in large part due to technological advancements, particularly in communication and transportation.

The expansion of trade agreements, including the North Atlantic Fair Trade Agreement (NAFTA) in 1994, eliminated tariffs and other trade barriers between the U.S., Canada, and Mexico facilitating the flow of goods, services, and investment across borders.

NAFTA had a significant impact on the economies of the member countries, leading to improved efficiency, increased trade volumes, economic growth, and job creation, particularly in sectors such as manufacturing and agriculture.

However, the agreement also faced criticism for its perceived role in job losses through outsourcing, environmental degradation, and income inequality and deindustrialization, particularly in the United States.
The emergence of a more interconnected world through globalization profoundly impacted the United States, reshaping its economy, society, and role in the world.
